Lipari Island Tour
Today you will enjoy a sightseeing tour around Lipari island, with an A/C deluxe coach and a knowledgeable guide.
Lipari is the main town on the island. Clearly visible, as you approach the island from the sea, is the top of the town, the fortified city with behind (visible if you come from Marina Lunga) the former Franciscan convent, now the Town Hall. Far below at its feet sit the two bays of Marina Corta, with the small church of the Anime del Purgatorio (once isolated on a rock, now linked to the mainland) and by the 17th century church of San Giuseppe, and of Marina Lunga, the larger of the two inlets. On the last night of the festival of St. Bartholomew on August 24th, Marina Corta is enlightened by a magnificent display of fireworks, set off from the sea. The lower part of the town, with its main street Corso Vittorio Emanuele lined with charming shops and restaurants, provides the perfect context for the traditional passeggiata (stroll).
There will be stops at the Oxidian and Punice Quarries and at the most panoramic points, from where you can enjoy the magnificent view of the seven Aeolian Islands.
On completion of the coach tour (about 1 ¼ hour) you will reach, on foot, the Castle area where you can visit S. Bartolomeo Church (from outside).
At the end of the tour you will have some free time for shopping in the main street.
